Bayonne Public Library Renovation Project FAQS

We have big news! The Bayonne Public Library has received $1 million in funding through the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act to undertake a large renovation project. The project is expected to last until May 2024. During this time, we will be remodeling the lobby and children’s room, repairing the facade, and replacing 1930s infrastructure.

The 31st St. building is currently closed. The Story Court temporary branch at 16 W 4th St. is currently open. 

Where are library services provided? We still offer many of our services at the “Story Court Branch”, which is located downtown at 16 West 4th St. Our online content, like hoopla, Mango Languages, and our databases is still available 24/7.

What are the hours at Story Court? We are open Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 9 pm and Friday & Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Am I still able to borrow books? Yes! Many of our physical books and all eContent is available. All of our newest 2022 and 2023 titles are available. 

Am I still able to return items? Yes! You can return items in person at the Story Court temporary branch (16 W 4th St.) OR you can place them in the return box outside the 31st St. handicap entrance. Our maintenance staff will be bringing items left in our return box down to Story Court once per day. 

Can I still place holds for pick-up? Yes! You can place holds in our catalog, Koha. Please allow 2 business days for holds to be picked and transferred down to the Story Court temporary branch. You will be notified once your hold is ready for pick-up.

What if I’m part of a local book club and/or I want to take part in a Beanstack challenge and I need books? All book club titles and/or Beanstack challenge recommendations will be available at the temporary location.

Am I able to get a new library card? Yes! You can get a new library card any time that the library is open.

Am I still able to use computers and print? Yes! There are computers and a printer available.

Am I able to make copies? Yes! Copies can be made.

Am I able to scan? No, unfortunately, we cannot scan items at our temporary location.

Am I able to fax? No, unfortunately, we cannot fax items at our temporary location.

Am I able to sit and study? Yes! There is space available for sitting and studying in both locations.

Am I able to charge my devices? Yes! There are wall plugs that you can use with your own chargers or you can borrow USB, USB-C, and Lightning chargers with your library card.

Am I able to read the newspapers? Yes! Newspapers will be available.

When are you reopening at 31st St.? We are currently anticipating an early May 2024 reopening!
