Library Renovation

We have big news! The New Jersey State Library has awarded the Bayonne Public Library grant funding as part of its Community Center Digital Connect Program – a community resilience project that will address disparities in access to education, employment, and health services by investing in capital improvements at community facilities.

The Bayonne Public Library will receive $2.372 million for interior and exterior renovations, which will include:

  • A complete replacement of the roof and chiller system
  • Adjustments to the second floor layout to create
    • Three small, reservable meeting rooms
    • A family restroom
    • A lactation space

When will work begin? We are anticipating work beginning in early November 2025 and continuing through May 2026.

Will the library need to close? No, at the moment, we are not anticipating any closures of the library. Some rooms on the second floor may be temporarily unavailable while we complete our work. But, we anticipate our building remaining open throughout this process.

Will programming or hours change? No, we anticipate all programs and hours remaining the same during our renovations.

Will the Children’s Room or Art & Music Room be impacted by the second floor changes?

No, these rooms will remain the same as they are now. It is possible you might hear construction noise in these rooms during our renovations. But, we expect the impact to these rooms to be minimal.

We can’t wait to welcome even more changes to our library that make our space more functional and welcoming for everyone!
